Hakim Syed Ziaul Hasan Govt. (Autonomous) Unani Medical College & Hospital was established by the government of Madhya Pradesh in June 1998 in the name of Late Hakim Syed Ziaul Hasan, an eminent Unani Physician of Bhopal. He was the first Chief Medical Officer of Bhopal State and the personal physician of the Nawab.
This college is developed as the only model graduate college in the state having fully fledged 14 departments as per the CCIM rules. This College is spread over about 10 acres of land in a beautiful campus located near kaliyasot dame. The college is serving the state as well as the nation and creating Unani Graduates every year.
Shifa Manzil was originally known as Madar Ul Maham Palace which means that the Prime Minister's palace. This was built in around 1850's by the then Prime Minister of Bhopal State - Maulvi Jamaluddin.
Later in 1932 it was purchased in an auction by Hakim Syed Ziaul Hasan who was the Chief Medical Officer of Bhopal State and the personal physician of the Nawab Hakim Ziaul Hasan named the palace as Shifa Manzil. Incidently, Hakim sahib's wife, the late Rabia Begum was a direct descendent of Maulvi Jamaluddin. Shifa Manzil has many memories for a large number of people who grew up here. It carries a very special place for many people who sought the medical treatment from Hakim sahib.
At present the descendents of Hakim Syed Ziaul Hasan live in the building. Capt. Syed Mohammed Hasan and his family. This is a very beautiful palace and has been kept in a remarkably good condition. Lately, the family lets out the house to movie makers as well as TV serial makers. The art move MAQBOOL was made in Shifa Manzil. The TV serial SHAHEEN was also made here.
