Institute of Asian Medical Sciences since its establishment in 1993 is imparting education of UNANI Medicine and Surgery undergraduate Course (BUMS). The Institute is situated in its own campus at Zakura just 2 Kms away from Kashmir University. The Institute is owing about 16 Kanals of land within posh area with common demarcation wall with BARC (Baba Atomic Research Centre).
The Institute stands recognized by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir vide Order No. HD_2/94-ISM of 17/12/1996 and permitted by the Department of AYUSH vide F No. R_17012/010/2012_EP Dated 21/05/2012 for the year 2012 - 2013 and recognized by CCIM vide F No. 1139/unani(II) since 1994 and affiliated with the University of Kashmir vide No. F(Aff-BUMS)Acad/KU since 1994.
